The Escondido General Plan Update Public Meetings to happen in August or September
updated July 15, 2010

The City is in the process of updating the General Plan.  Check out the City's website for information regarding the update:
General Plan Update

Residents are encouraged to get involved!  Why?  Because the plan affects ALL Escondido residents (and those in the "Sphere of Influence").

The General Plan is a public-policy planning document, which guides the city's development and generally covers a 20-year period.  It is a "blueprint" for the community reflecting the vision of its residents.

City Council Elections are coming - November 2nd!

Do the Residents of Escondido want to continue the current Council's (bad) habit of granting excessive fee breaks, waivers or fee freezes?

Do you know what we are actually paying for when the City grants these breaks?  Do you know what these so-called "public improvements" really are?

Want to see an example of what the
 taxpayers are subsidizing?
 Click on the documents below.

City "Required" Public Improvements Doc for T892 Part 1

City "Required" Public Improvements Doc for T892 Part 2

Can you believe that our taxpayers are helping to pay for a Goat Pen
(for a residence whom resides in the County)?

Can you believe that for this one project, just 41 homes, the so-called "required" public improvement costs the City (taxpayers) a total of $943,345?  And the Developer will pay only $297,390.

Is this an example of how we want our tax dollars spent?  We think not!

WalMart in Escondido?

It's ALIVE!!!  Conversation, that is.  The North County Times reported that conversations have resumed between City officials and a broker 'who has previously negotiated deals for new WalMart stores'.  However, a WalMart spokesman stated that 'no internal discussions are under way' for a WalMart in Escondido.

The 11-acre site is the former location of the Escondido Union School District (located east of Ash Street, between E. Valley Parkway and Grand Avenue).

Councilman Sam Abed stated that he supports WalMart at the location, but would not support WalMart locating on more prominent commercial real estate.  Councilman Abed said the site was "a marginal site, but it would be a good spot for a WalMart", because the discount retailer would serve the area's demographics, which tend to be lower income.

  • Do Escondido residents support WalMart at this location?

Poway Group Opposes WalMart Expansion
:

The South Poway Residents Organization vehemently opposes the expansion of the WalMart, located off Community Road (in Poway).  Concerns include increased traffic, inadequate infrastructure and the negative impacts on smaller like-type businesses.  This group has posed a strong presence in the argument against the expansion and they have attracted national attention in their fight!  For more information regarding this group and their efforts, click on the following link:  www.southpowayresidents.com

> Ding Dong...The Proposed Residential Parking Restriction is Dead
updated January 30, 2010

It appears that the proposed overnight residential parking restriciton ordinance is virtually dead - even though the City lacks the guts to officially declare it so - that they will not pursue the proposed ordinance any further - that they will no longer use valuable resources, valuable staff time to fit this size 10 into a size 3 shoe...so to speak.

As far as the Escondido Chamber of Citizens is concerned, the death of the proposed ordinance is a good thing!  The ordinance was not justified with fact and was cubersome and would have been costly (and obviously the City does not have the money).   Good Riddance - let's all hope the issue is dead!
