November 2010 Elections are Just a Few Months Away!

Local Businessman Tom D'Agosta will run for the Mayor's seat,
as well as (current) Councilmembers Dick Daniels and Sam Abed.

Local Businessmen Richard Barron and Jim Crone, Policy Analyst, Jason Everitt and School District Employee Carmen Miranda Griffith,
as well as Insurance Agent Adam Brooks and Escondido Resident, Matthew Harold
Incumbent Marie Waldron (is running for re-election) and former Councilman
Ed Gallo (will run seek to reclaim a seat on the Council)
are all candidates vying for the two seats open this election cycle.

Stay Alert!

The City Council Elections are just around the corner!

Do the Residents of Escondido want to continue the current Council's (bad) habit of granting excessive fee breaks,
waivers or fee freezes?

Do you know what we are actually paying for, when the City grants these breaks?  Do you know what these so-called "public improvements" really are?

If you want to see an example of what the taxpayers are subsidizing, click on the documents below:

City "Required" Public Improvements Doc for T892 Part 1

City "Required" Public Improvements Doc for T892 Part 2

Can you believe that taxpayers are helping to pay for a Goat Pen
(for a residence which resides in the County)?

Can you believe that for this one project, just 41 homes, the so-called "required" public improvement costs the City (taxpayers) a total of $943,345?  And the Developer will pay only $297,390.

Is this an example of how we want our tax dollars spent?  We think not!

How much did our City Council grant in fee breaks, waivers and credits for the Eureka Ranch and Brookside residential developments?

Take a look at these documents and decide for yourself if our City Council is granting overly-generous fee breaks to residential developers:

Brookside Residential Development

Eureka Ranch Residential Development

The point is not to debate whether these developments are quality developments - because they are quality, indeed!

The point is to debate whether our City is granting fee breaks and credits which are in excess of what is acceptable and fair.

The Escondido Chamber of Citizens believes that this "Pro-Developer/Business" Council is and has been granting fees that go beyond needed public improvements.

We believe taxpayers are being taken advantage of - review the documents and decide for yourself.  If you believe the same, then it is likely we agree that our City is in dire need of Council Members who serves the community first and who vote based on the overall good for the community.

With these kinds of fee breaks and credits, it's no wonder we have pothole-ridden roads and dilapidated public buildings.

Happy Anniversary!
Councilwoman Olga Diaz

On December 3, 2008,
 Olga Diaz was
sworn in as Escondido City Council Member.  Councilwoman Diaz has done a very fine job
representing the citizens of Escondido her first year.

We have faith she will do so her entire term.

The Escondido Chamber of Citizens recognized Diaz's one-year anniversary with a bouquet of flowers and a gift bag of goodies.

(which included items like chapstick, extra strength pain reliever,
a pair of toe socks, post-it notes - all which should come in handy.)
